Sony is a large corporation that has a significant investment in eBook readers. They have made 3 Readers that were all E-Ink devices with 6" displays. Sony current calls them "Reader Digital Book" although they originally were called the Sony Portable Reader. These include the:
- Sony Librie - now discontinued
- Sony PRS-500 - discontinued
- Sony PRS-505 - current model
- Sony PRS-700 - current deluxe model, touch screen and bult-in light
- Sony PRS-300 - soon to be released 5" model
- Sony PRS-600 - soon to be released touch screen 6" model
Sony also has a connect store that sells books for the last three devices. The connect store includes software called eBook Library that runs on your Windows PC.
Historically Sony has been in the eBook Reader business for a long time. In 1990 they release the Data Discman in Japan and to the US in 1991. Of course Sony also sells laptops which can be used for eBook Reading. The newest Netbook sized unit is the P Series. Even the Sony PSP can be used for reading eBooks.
