There is a wide variety of eBook software available on a wide variety of formats.

PalmOS document formats A few notes about documents on Palm devices

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader for PalmOS: This is a version of the Adobe Reader(Acrobat) written for PalmOS. Despite being written by Adobe, some features of PDF files are unavailable.
  • CSpotRun An early Palm "doc" file viewer
  • Deep Reader: A Palm "doc" file reader for PalmOS PDAs. Abandoned by the author and no longer developed.
  • iSilo: A shareware PalmOS viewer for offline HTML files
  • LionDoc A Palm doc and zText file viewer, based on CSpotRun code
  • MobiPocket Reader: A PalmOS reader for documents in MobiPocket format and Palm doc files
  • Palm Fiction A free, open source reader for Palm "doc", zTXT, plain ASCII text, and RTF files
  • PalmPDF A free, open source Adobe PDF viewer for Palm OS5 devices, based on a port of the XPDF library
  • Palm eReader: eReader Ebook reading software that was supplied with a number of Palm devices.
  • Plucker: A free, open source offline viewer for HTML on PalmOS PDAs
  • Tome Raider: features database like access with in an eBook reader.
  • uBook: A simple, lean but powerful eBook Reader. Also uBookLite.
  • WeaselReader: A free, open source reader for Palm "DOC" and zTXT files, originally written to view Project Gutenberg etexts.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader: Provides reflow for the smaller screen.
  • HaaliReader: Windows Mobile reader, supporting FB2 and TXT formats, and dictionaries support. Free, open source.
  • iSilo: A shareware viewer for offline HTML files
  • Microsoft Reader: Only available for Windows and Windows Mobile (Pocket PC) OS.
  • MobiPocket Reader: - Very popular format.
  • Palm eReader: Palm also produce a version of its eBook reading software for Windows.
  • Plucker: A free, open source offline viewer for HTML
  • Tome Raider: features database like access with in an eBook reader.
  • uBook: A simple, lean but powerful eBook Reader. Also uBookLite.
  • Unyverse: Read Wikipedia and any RSS news Feed (freeware, Windows Mobile 5.0 or higher and an wireless connection).

  • eFile software: This is a free part of eOffice that reads PDFs, DOCs and TXTs
  • iSilo: now supports BlackBerry.

[edit] Cell phones

Cell Phones may not have a traditional OS but most of the so called Smartphones do have a standardized OS that may permit support for eBook Readers and other features. These OS's include Symbian OS, Linux, PalmOS and Windows Mobile. The list of products below are intended to supplement the list of products shown under the various OS's. Most of these depend in Java support.

  • QReader: Freeware, high quality reader for Nokia cell phones. Very customizable.
  • ReaderManiac: Freeware, high quality reader for any Java (J2ME MIDP 2) phone.
  • tx2ph: This is a WAP-based reader that can read TXTs, PDFs. Works with any Internet-connected mobile device, including BlackBerries and Palms of course.
  • Unyverse: Read Wikipedia and any RSS news Feed on any Java (J2ME MIDP 2) phone (freeware).
