US-based Ectaco, Inc. develops and produces multifunctional handheld electronic dictionaries that often include speech recognition and voice output capabilities. The company also maintains LingvoSoft, its software division, to provide translation software for the company's hardware as well as stand-alone applications for most platforms.

Since the foundation of the company in 1990, it has produced 7 generations of electronic dictionaries and developed its Language Teacher and Partner brands for over 45 languages. In 2008 the company released the jetBook eBook Reader which is one of the few devices to support non-Latin characters. The eBook Reader software is also available on the ECTACO Partner EA900 Deluxe.
