[edit] How to Open a Command Prompt Window in Vista, XP and Mac OSX

All windows versions will accept holding down the windows key and pressing R as shown below.

Open a Command Prompt window in Vista by pressing the Windows Key + R. You can also open the window by pressing the Start Menu --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Run

Once opened, type in "cmd" and click "OK".

Open a Command Prompt window in XP by pressing the Windows Key + R. You can also open the window by pressing the Start Menu --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Run

Run the terminal program. You can do this by finding it in your applications folder. But, it is easier to run it from spotlight. By pressing CMD-Spacebar then typing in "terminal". Arrow down to "terminal" in the list and press Return.
