The Kindle Scribe was released 30 November 2022.

Described as having a 300ppi 10.2" screen, the display is 1860 x 2480 pixels.

Files may be sent to the device using a web page: https://www.amazon.com/sendtokindle or e-mail, or apps for Windows, Mac, Android, IOS, or a Chrome browser extension.

Supported filetypes for conversion to Scribe compatible formats include: DOC/DOCX, TXT, RTF, HTM/HTML, PNG/GIF/JPG/JPEG/BMP, EPUB, and PDF, the latter which may be either "adjustable layout" (sent via e-mail with the subject line "Convert"), or "original layout".

Note that "Print Replica" ebooks are not currently supported.

It includes a current generation Wacom EMR stylus in one of two types, Basic or Premium Pen, with the latter adding a side button and eraser. Either magnetically attaches to the side of the unit.

Compatible styluses include:

  • Staedtler Noris Digital Stylus (both Regular and Jumbo, with the latter's eraser working as an eraser) --- note that stylus calibration may be something of an issue --- at least one stylus began inking almost an inch above the screen
  • Wacom One Stylus Pen
  • Lamy Al-Star EMR
  • HP Zbook X2 Pen
  • Samsung styluses from various devices (Galaxy Book 12 and Note 10+ have been tested and are known to work)

Note that stylus calibration or lack thereof may affect functionality --- at least one Staedtler Noris Digital Stylus which was tested was unusable on the Scribe because it started making a mark before the tip touched the screen (changing out the tip only slightly reduced the distance and which this happened).

Features which have been noted as desirable to add include:

  • chisel edge/italic line option
  • 2-up landscape mode --- this has been noted as being under development and likely to be released early 2023 https://forum.tabletpc.review/t/pen-enabled-kindle-scribe/968/174
  • handwriting recognition
  • export of notebooks as vectors/strokes (currently they are a 1860x2480 pixel image)
  • ability to run 3rd party apps such as Autodesk Sketchbook and Nebo.app
