PRS700 disassembly

Here is how to disassemble a Sony PRS-700 courtesy of Igor Skochinsky. See Flickr.com photos

Step 1: Remove the 4 screws on the back corners.

Step 2: Remove the 2 screws and switch on the left end.

Step 3: bottom plate removed. Detach the volume buttons and remove the magnet below. Remove the screw which was under the magnet. Now you can remove the top/side plastic panel (not shown).

Step 4: Touch screen is attached with double-sided sticky tape. Just insert something thin between it and the body and carefully pry it off. Start at the bottom, as the connector cable is at the top.

Step 5: Touch screen almost removed. This photo was taken at a different time, so the Reader still has top/side and bottom plastic plates attached. If you followed the directions so far, your top plate should be removed and you can disconnect the touch screen's cable now.

Step 6: Remove four marked screws. (In the center of the image)

Step 7: If it stayed after removing the touch screen, remove the sticky stripe below the screen and above the buttons. After than you can start sliding out the inner assembly. At one point you'll need to detach the flat flex cable which connects the LEDs inside the case.

Step 8: Inner assembly removed from the case.

Step 9: Bottom of the assembly. Remove marked screws and detach cables, then remove bottom connectors assembly and top assembly with card slots and switches.

Step 10: Remove marked screws and then the battery. Pull back the sticky foil in the corner. Carefully remove the black plastic protector.

Step 11: Remove two screws and detach cables to remove the board.
