The Surface Book is a 2-in-1 true laptop computer that is Ultra-thin, incredible screen resolution with a 13.5" screen.

Overview

This is a true laptop computer from Microsoft. The keyboard can be removed to turn it into a tablet. It is like carrying around an electronic clipboard. There is an optional docking station available. It does not include a CD/DVD drive. A surface pen is included which attaches magnetically to laptop. This unit has a 6 Megapixel display at 267 ppi. Starting price $1,499.

The Keyboard can also attach backwards for better tablet use. Keyboard contains all of the expansion ports and a second battery.

Surface Pen has 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity and an eraser on the other end, so handwritten notes on your screen are just like pen on paper.

Updates

A higher performance based model called the Surface Book 2 was released in 2016. It weighs 3.63 lbs (1,647g), has an i7 x86 dual-core 7th Gen model processor with 256GB minimum memory. The NVIDIA dGPU graphics coprocessor has its own 2GB of memory. Battery life is increased to 16 hours. Screen can be reversed and reattached to keyboard. It is slightly thick to accommodate the larger battery. Otherwise the same as below. Starting price is $2399.

A 2019 update was announced in April. It keeps the earlier model at a price of $1,299. It upgrades the processor to a quad-core model which will be priced at $1,499, and includes an i5-8350U which bumps the processor’s maximum boost clock speed up to 3.6GHz. It continues the 256GB storage and 8GB RAM. The performance difference is very noticeable.
