Talk:Front light
[edit] Front light looks like back light?
I'm not sure I entirely understand what exactly a front light is - my first guess would have been a light that is above (in front) of the display. But at least with the ImcoV6L the light looks as if it were behind the display - which apparently is an illusion/misconclusion?--Cyberman tM (talk) 01:52, 22 January 2014 (EST)
You first guess is close to right. It is a light on the front layer of the multilayer screen display. If you look at the article on e Ink you will see that it works based on reflected light. A front light is more properly thought of as a edge light that distributes light from the edge of the display across the surface thereby providing a similar light source to the book light you would use on a hardcopy book. The user see the light reflected off the page of the book in order to read the words on the page. Similarly in e Ink the ink itself reflects the light so it appears to you that the reflection is the source. If done right you can't really see the light source. --DaleDe (talk) 12:10, 22 January 2014 (EST)
