Talk:Iliad:contentLister Implementation
[edit] iLiad will reboot?
"ContentLister is almost a part of the Iliad operating system. It is started at boot time. the Iliad will reboot if contentLister is stopped for whatever reason. "
This is not true on my iLiad. In fact, it's almost the opposite: if the ContentLister is killed, the iLiad will NOT shut down even if the power switch is flipped. Jharker 09:55, 8 November 2008 (EST)
Oh! This must have been added in 2.12. I'm still running 2.11 and the line in start.sh is different: it's just "/usr/bin/contentLister --sync &". Clearly they added reboot to the line so that if the process died for any reason the iLiad would reboot properly. Since, as I mentioned before, with a dead contentLister the iLiad's power switch does not function, they wanted to make sure the iLiad would be left in a usable state in the event of a contentLister crash.
It's worth discussing whether this line should be reverted. It seems to me that the contentLister could theoretically freeze in a manner that would not crash it, requiring the user to press the reset button anyway. Yet at the same time, as Hansel points out, any flaw in the contentLister will just make the iLiad endlessly reboot. Jharker 10:02, 8 November 2008 (EST)
