VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) is an implementation of Microsoft's event-driven programming language Visual Basic 6. VB6 was declared a legacy in 2008. The current version is 7.1 that is part of Microsoft Office 2019.

Basic is a simple programming language that has been elevated and enhanced to provide a user with tools to make Windows applications (apps). Initially basic was a like a scripting language that was interpreted directly to provide an output to allow the user to easily see the results. It was written to run under MS-DOS.
