ASF

Advanced Systems Format is Microsoft's proprietary digital audio/digital video container format.

Overview

This format was previously called Advanced Streaming Format or Active Streaming Format. It is specially designed for streaming audio/video media. ASE is part of the Windows Media Framework. It is a container and does not specify the format of the data itself. The most common file types contained within an ASF file are WMA for audio and WMV for video. It also provides the framework for a DRM scheme.
