AVI is known as Audio Video Interleaved, is a combination of audio and video file formats. it uses a lossy compression technology for video files. While the image quality is not very good, it's still widely used. AVI supports 256 colors and RLE compression. AVI is mainly used multimedia disc to save the TV, movies, and other image information.
AVI is also a container format that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback. It does support multiple audio tracks, and even multiple streams although this feature is seldom used. The file will typically have an .AVI extension. It does support metadata and can be used with XMP.
It can contain formats for MPEG4, ASP, XVID, DIVX codecs or even WMV.
