AVI, Audio Video Interleaved, is a multimedia format introduced for Windows video.

[edit] Overview

AVI is a container format that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback. It does support multiple audio tracks, and even multiple streams although this feature is seldom used. The file will typically have an .AVI extension. It does support metadata and can be used with XMP.

It can contain formats for MPEG4, ASP, XVID, DIVX codecs or even WMV.
