Scribd is a membership service for readers, and get monthly access to books, audiobooks, and more for less than the cost of a paperback.

Overview

For a monthly fee (currently $8.99) the user has access to eBooks of several types including standard eBooks of various genre, documents, audio books, comics, and even sheet music. They use a DRM scheme requiring a compatible device or program to read their books. Currently, if you have a premium membership, Scribd allows unlimited access to their content library. However, in some circumstances some titles may become unavailable until the next month depending on your recent reading activity. A free trial of 30 days allows exploring the collection.

Supported hardware

You can read books on Scribd through your web browser on any computer, or using the web browser built into almost all smartphones and tablets. Additionally, you can install their apps on your iPhone, iPad, or any Android device to store books for offline reading.

While Scribd supports tablets like the Kindle Fire and NOOK HD, it doesn’t support directly E Ink based readers like the Amazon Kindle and NOOK Simple Touch.
