[edit] Overview

The iPhone 6S models were announced by Apple on Sept 9, 2015 for delivery by the end of the month. These models include the 6S and 6S plus have a higher resolution camera 12 vs 8 Mpixel and improved screen than the iPhone 6 models which was still available. All of the iPhones from 6 to 8 have the same size and resolution screens. The plus models have a larger screen with higher resolution.

The iPhone 7 models were introduced on Sept 7, 2016 for delivery by the end of the month. These models include the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus which have the same screen sizes as the previous dual offerings (6 and 6S). The iPhone 7 plus includes new backside dual camera lens for both wide angle and telephoto (2X) use. They can be used together for creating effects and to improve the resolution of digital zooming. They have a new image signal processor that uses machine learning to process pictures, and take the best shots with tone mapping, noise reduction, and a wide color gamut. The images are said to be 25% brighter than before. The Front side camera on both models is now 7 Mpixel. The home button has new additional functionality called "taptic" which is Apple's word for a touch button with haptic feedback. It is now pressure sensitive and a program can vibrate the button to provide feedback to the user. These phones also have immersive stereo speakers built in. They will release with iOS 10 preloaded. They are also water resistant. See also Samsung vs LG vs Apple

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus were introduced on Sept 12, 2017 for delivery Sept 22. They are an all new glass version with a matching aluminum band all around. They also has wireless charging and the latest and most powerful CPU. They are a bit heavier and thicker than the iPhone 7 models they replace. Features include all iPhone 7 equivalent versions plus higher performance and some additions. Fast charging is available if you have a larger charger. 4K recording and 60fps rate is supported with the faster sensor. The 8 plus has a better camera with deeper pixels, true color display, and new color filter.
