- Amazon Kindle 1 - 6" screen. No longer available new.
- Amazon Kindle 2 - 6" screen. There were two models of this differing only in the Whispernet support. One was US only and one is International, including the US. No longer available new.
- Kindle DX - 9.7" screen. There were two models of this differing only in the Whispernet support. One was US only and one is International, including the US. A third design featured an E Ink Pearl screen. Only this later model is currently being sold.
Kindle 3 is a collective term for the following products.
- Amazon Kindle 3G WiFi - 6" screen with worldwide 3G. Now called Kindle Keyboard 3g WiFi.
- Amazon Kindle WiFi - 6" WiFi only. Now called Kindle Keyboard WiFi.
Kindle 4 is a collective term for 4th generation products.
- Amazon Kindle 4 - 6" WiFi only and no Keyboard. Amazon calls this the 'Kindle' of Kindle Basic.
- Amazon Kindle Touch - A 6" based unit with a touch screen and also has support for audio books. This is no longer available being replaced with the Kindle paperwhite.
- Amazon Kindle 5 - The 2012 Basic Kindle.
- Amazon Kindle 6 - The 2014 Basic Kindle now has a touch screen.
- Amazon Kindle 8 - 2016 Basic Kindle with Bluetooth audio.
- Amazon Kindle Oasis - top of the line 6" Kindle for 2016 with 300 ppi; asymmetric design with hardware buttons.
- Amazon Kindle Oasis 7 - first 7" waterproof reader. released 2017.

These are the latest products from Amazon.
- Amazon Kindle Oasis, Oasis 3, announce on July 24, 2019. It is nearly identical in appearance to the Oasis 2, with a similar 7-inch, 300ppi E Ink display, adjustable warm light, one-handed design, waterproofing, aluminum exterior, Bluetooth support and Micro USB for charging. It adds a 25 LED front light that can adjust color temperature to warmer tones, the first Kindle to be able to do so. This device is available in two different colors; Graphite or Champagne Gold.
- Amazon Kindle Voyage - top of the line 6" Kindle for 2014 with 300 ppi.
- Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 4th generation released November 7, 2018; it is colloquially referred to as the Paperwhite 4 and Paperwhite 2018. It is available in 8 GB Wi-Fi, 32 GB Wi-Fi and 32 GB Wi-Fi + 4G LTE models. It features a 6-inch plastic-backed display of Amazon's own design with 300 ppi and a flush screen featuring five LED lights.[92] It is waterproof with an IPX8 rating, allowing submersion in 2 meters of fresh water for up to one hour. It supports playback of Audible audio books only by pairing with external Bluetooth speakers or headphones.

- Amazon Kindle Fire HD - A new tablet with both 7" and 8.9" versions.
- Amazon Kindle 10 was released on March 20, 2019, which features the first front light available on a basic Kindle. The front light uses 4 LEDs compared to the Paperwhite with 5 LEDs. Kindle 10 uses a 6-inch display with higher contrast than previous basic Kindles and has the same 167 ppi resolution. It has black and white colors.
